Family Involvement

Be your child's first teacher

Research shows that family involvement can:

  • increase academic performance
  • increase test scores
  • increase chances of graduating
  • increase chances of attending college/trade school.

Help your child succeed in three steps:

1.) Read to your child for 30 minutes each day.

2.) Eat dinner together as a family and spend the time discussing your child's day.

3.) Use "teachable moments" while driving or at the grocery store to discuss what you see- colors, shapes and numbers.

Developmental Milestones

How your child plays, learns, speaks, and acts offers important clues about your child’s development. Developmental milestones are things most children can do by a certain age.

You can find a listing of the CDS's developmental milestones for your child's physical and cognitive growth. Take this with you and talk with your child’s doctor at every visit about the milestones your child has reached and what to expect next.
